Following a meeting in Geneva where negotiations commenced between Western and Iranian officials, the Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, stated that “regional escalation benefits no one” and that is why “we must keep discussions open.”
“We were clear, Iran cannot have nuclear weapons,” emphasized UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy. He added that he and his European foreign minister colleagues are “inclined” to continue “ongoing discussions” on negotiations with Iran.
“We call on Iran to continue talks with the United States,” Lammy said, noting that “this is a dangerous moment” and it is “extremely important” that regional escalation of the conflict between Iran and Israel is avoided.
Kallas further confirmed that both sides agreed to discuss nuclear issues and “broader issues.”
