Iran has executed three protesters convicted of killing two police officers during nationwide anti-government protests in January, reported Reuters, citing the Iranian judiciary news agency Mizan.

According to judicial authorities, the convicted individuals were found guilty of murder as well as the charge of “waging war against God,” a term used in Iran’s legal system for serious offenses against the state. They were also accused of acting in favor of Israel and the United States.

The protests initially began as a reaction to the country’s economic conditions but later evolved into a broader movement against the Iranian government.

According to the Human Rights Activists News Agency, based in the United States, around 6,488 protesters have been killed during these protests. This figure does not include 236 children, 76 individuals who were not participating in protests, and 207 members of military and government forces who also lost their lives.

HRANA stated that it is continuing to review approximately 11,744 additional cases following the intensification of the crackdown by Iranian security forces.
