Iran has executed two men convicted of membership in a banned opposition group and of carrying out acts of sabotage aimed at overthrowing the Islamic Republic, the judiciary announced.

The executions on Saturday are the latest in a series of measures against members of the outlawed People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran, after four other convicted members of the group were executed earlier this week, according to reports.

“Abolhassan Montazer and Vahid Baniamerian … were hanged after trial, and their sentences were confirmed by the Supreme Court,” the judiciary’s Mizan Online website reported.

The men were found guilty of attempting “rebellion through involvement in several terrorist acts,” as well as membership in the MEK and carrying out acts of sabotage with the aim of toppling the Islamic Republic.

It was not immediately clear when the men had been arrested.

The MEK, which initially supported the Iranian Revolution before breaking with the leadership in the 1980s, has since been in exile and is considered a terrorist organization by Tehran.

Iran is the world’s second-largest executor after China, according to human rights groups.
