A relative of Iranian protester Erfan Soltani, who was detained by Iranian authorities last week, has stated that he is expected to be executed on Wednesday.

Reports indicate that Soltani, 26, was sentenced to death due to alleged involvement in protests near Iran’s capital, Tehran.

A family member told BBC that Soltani was arrested on Thursday, the day when protests in Iran reached their peak.

“In an extremely fast process, within just two days, the court issued a death sentence,” the relative said, adding that the family was informed he would be executed on Wednesday, January 14.

Awyar Shekhi from the Hengaw Human Rights Organization stated that her teams “have never seen a case move so quickly” as in Soltani’s situation.
