The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has declared that the Strait of Hormuz is “fully” under its control, directly countering statements made by U.S. President Donald Trump.
In a statement posted on Telegram, the IRGC emphasized that the situation in this vital maritime corridor is “completely and decisively” under the control of its navy and that it will not be reopened “to the enemies of this nation through the theater of the American president.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Trump stated that Iran had requested a ceasefire with the United States, adding that such a request would only be considered if Tehran reopened the Strait of Hormuz for maritime traffic. He also claimed that until then, the U.S. is “destroying Iran” and reducing it “to the Stone Age.”
However, there has been no official confirmation from Iran regarding such a ceasefire request, and it remains unclear whether the Iranian president has full authority to negotiate on behalf of the entire power structure in the country.
Meanwhile, Trump has previously stated that reopening the Strait of Hormuz would not pose a problem for the United States, suggesting that it could occur after the conflict concludes.
