Iranian Ambassador to the United Nations Ali Bahreini warned Friday that Iran could target European infrastructure if necessary, amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Bahreini stated that the Iranian military would strike any facilities used by the United States for attacks against Iran. “Let me be clear: our armed forces have declared a policy under which any site or base used to attack Iran will be a legitimate target for our forces,” he said.
Asked whether European bases could be included, Bahreini replied that Iran would act to protect its national security. “We will defend our country as necessary to ensure its safety and to prevent any aggression against us,” he added.
These statements come as the conflict in the Middle East enters its third week, with tensions rising in several regional countries. Bahreini also criticized U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran, calling them violations of international law, while denying accusations that Iran has targeted civilian sites in Gulf states. According to him, all attacks have focused on military installations of opposing forces.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized that a resolution to the conflict would require recognition of Iran’s legitimate rights, compensation payments, and international guarantees against future aggression. Despite these statements, regional peace appears distant, as Iran has launched dozens of attacks in Gulf countries and fired missiles into NATO airspace, reportedly targeting Turkey three times.
