Despite enduring significant diplomatic tensions, Iran’s chief diplomat Abbas Araghchi confirmed that communication channels with the United States remain open. His statement comes just a week after Republican Donald Trump secured his presidential victory.
“Communication channels between us and the Americans still exist,” Araghchi declared after a weekly Iranian government meeting. He emphasized that while differences remain substantial, both sides have managed to minimize tensions through strategic dialogue.
Araghchi reiterated that last month, he saw no foundation for indirect nuclear negotiations with the U.S., a position he stated on October 14 during a visit to Oman, a traditional mediator between the two nations. The severed Iran-U.S. relations date back to the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian echoed Araghchi’s sentiments, underlining the inevitability of engaging with the United States in regional and global affairs. “Whether we like it or not, we must manage this matter ourselves,” Pezeshkian noted.
