An attempted drone attack has targeted one of the largest oil refineries in Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Ministry of Defense has announced.

The attack reportedly aimed at the Ras Tanura oil refinery, considered the largest in the Kingdom and one of the most important oil facilities globally.

“Initial assessments indicate that the attack was carried out using a drone and did not cause any damage,” the Ministry of Defense stated.

The Ras Tanura facility has previously been targeted in attacks attributed to Iran, as shown in recent satellite imagery captured earlier this week.

Why Ras Tanura matters

Ras Tanura is a critical hub for global energy markets. Operated by Saudi Aramco, it plays a central role in Saudi Arabia’s oil exports. Any successful strike on the facility could have significant geopolitical and economic consequences, potentially impacting global oil prices and regional security dynamics.
