Israel announced on Monday (May 19, 2025) that it will permit limited quantities of food to enter Gaza, a territory teetering on the brink of famine, according to a report by the BBC.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that a “hunger crisis” would jeopardize Israel’s renewed military offensive against the Hamas group.
Extensive ground operations have commenced throughout Gaza, and deadly airstrikes have continued overnight.
Hospitals have reported that more than 100 people, including children, were killed over the weekend.
Israel has intensified its aerial and ground attacks in Gaza, emphasizing its aim to dismantle Hamas and secure the return of hostages held by the Palestinian militant group.
It is reported that 58 hostages are still being held in Gaza. Of these, 23 are believed to still be alive.
This decision by Israel to allow limited food supplies into Gaza comes amid increasing international pressure and growing concerns over the humanitarian situation in the enclave.
