At least 27 people were killed Friday in Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, according to hospital officials, as Hamas reviews a new ceasefire proposal recently accepted by Israel.
In Khan Younis, southern Gaza, an airstrike struck a tent sheltering displaced civilians, killing 13 people, including eight children, officials told the Associated Press. Earlier in the day, 14 more people were reported dead in northern Gaza, following strikes in areas near Jabalia refugee camp and Gaza City.
The Shifa Hospital reported receiving 12 bodies from Jabalia, while the Palestinian Red Crescent confirmed two additional fatalities brought to Al Quds Hospital.
These attacks come as the conflict nears its 20th month, following Hamas-led attacks on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which killed approximately 1,200 people. In response, Israel launched a large-scale military operation in Gaza.
Since then, over 54,000 Palestinians have died, according to the Hamas-run Ministry of Health. The figure includes a high number of women and children, though the ministry does not distinguish between civilian and combatant casualties.
On Thursday, the White House announced that Israel had agreed to a U.S.-backed ceasefire plan. While Hamas initially criticized the proposal as a cover for continued “killing and starvation,” it later stated it would carefully evaluate the offer.
The situation remains tense, with international observers closely watching whether ceasefire negotiations will progress or falter amid continued bloodshed.
