Hours after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a ceasefire, both sides initially accused each other of violations and exchanged attacks. However, following Trump’s clear frustration and his subsequent conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, officials from both Israel and Iran have now accepted and confirmed they are implementing the ceasefire agreement.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian issued a statement via state media, acknowledging the ceasefire with Israel. Pezeshkian asserted that the conflict was “imposed” on Iran by Israel’s “adventures” and claimed that “the people of Iran” are committed to ending the “12-day war.”

The Israeli military also released a statement accepting the ceasefire with Iran, stating that their “focus now shifts back to Gaza.” General Eyal Zamir commented that the army had completed a “significant phase, but the campaign against Iran is not over.” He added, “We are entering a new phase, based on the achievements of the current phase. We have set back Iran’s nuclear project by years, and the same applies to its missile program,” describing the Israeli military’s actions as a “phenomenal achievement.”

The situation in the Middle East has been highly tense since Israel’s surprise attack on Iranian nuclear and military centers on June 13. Israel maintains that Iran cannot possess nuclear weapons as it threatens its existence, despite Tehran’s claims that its nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes. The United States also became involved on June 22, attacking Iranian nuclear facilities. In response, Iran launched missiles towards the American airbase in Qatar the following day, but these were intercepted, and no one was injured.
