The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have confirmed that Hamas leader Mohammed Sinwar was killed in a strike on the European Hospital in southern Gaza, and have released footage showing his body discovered in secret tunnels.
The 49-year-old Hamas leader was eliminated in an IDF operation on May 13, and on Sunday, Israel retrieved his body from a tunnel in Khan Yunis.
The IDF stated that the announcement was made after the body underwent an identification process, with the military sharing what they say is Sinwar’s suspected documentation and driver’s license.
In footage recorded by a body camera, posted on X, a soldier is seen entering a deep tunnel outside the medical facility before proceeding along a dark corridor.

They eventually enter a room filled with what appears to be weapons and ammunition, and then turn the camera to show Sinwar’s body lying on the ground.
Sinwar, known by the nicknames “The Shadow” and “The Butcher of Khan Younis,” was targeted in a massive airstrike on the Khan Younis hospital on May 13, just one day after Hamas released Israeli-American soldier Edan Alexander.

At the time, the IDF said it had struck “Hamas terrorists at a command and control center” within the hospital’s underground infrastructure.
