Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, has warned that a “powerful hurricane” of airstrikes will hit Gaza City later on Monday, as the Israeli military expands its aerial offensive on the enclave’s largest urban area.

Katz described the looming assault as a “final warning to Hamas murderers and rapists in Gaza and in luxury hotels abroad”, demanding the release of hostages and the surrender of weapons. Otherwise, he warned, “Gaza will be destroyed and you will be exterminated,” Reuters reported.

Recent days have seen intensified airstrikes, with dozens of buildings damaged and several neighborhoods leveled, as Israel prepares for a long-anticipated ground offensive.
