Israel’s Chief of Staff, Herzi Halevi, announced on Tuesday that he has submitted his resignation, taking responsibility for the deadly Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, in Israel.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military conducted a large-scale operation in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of six people and injuries to 35 others, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
Halevi, who assumed his position in January 2023, stated that his resignation will take effect on March 6.
General Halevi is the highest-ranking Israeli official to resign due to the security failure on October 7, 2023, when thousands of Hamas militants—the Palestinian group designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. and EU—entered southern Israel and attacked communities near the border and military bases.
