Israeli Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Chikli has launched a scathing attack on Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, branding him a “terrorist” and calling for his “immediate elimination.”
In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) in both English and Hebrew, Chikli asserted that al-Sharaa’s regime is responsible for attacks against the Druze community in Syria.
“Anyone who thinks Ahmad al-Sharaa is a legitimate leader is gravely mistaken – he is a barbarian murderer who must be eliminated without delay,” the Israeli minister wrote. His comments followed the Israeli army’s announcement of strikes against Syrian regime targets, reportedly in response to attacks on the Druze population.
Chikli also shared online footage, purportedly showing Syrian forces abusing members of the Druze community, including scenes where soldiers forcibly shaved men’s beards. Alongside these images, he wrote in Hebrew: “If it looks like Hamas, talks like Hamas, and acts like Hamas – it is Hamas,” drawing a comparison between the Syrian troops’ behavior and that of the Gaza-based militant group.
The minister accused European leaders of silence in the face of these actions and demanded that the Syrian regime be confronted.
“We must not stand idly by in the face of the Islamist-Nazi terrorist regime of Al-Qaeda in a suit and tie. We saw the horrific massacre of Alawites, encountered deafening silence from European leaders, and now we are witnessing the massacre and humiliation of the Druze. The terrorist regime in Syria must be fought,” he declared.
