The leader of the Israeli opposition, Yair Lapid, has sharply criticized how Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu managed the war situation, following Netanyahu’s overnight statement supporting the ceasefire proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Lapid called the situation a “political disaster” for Israel. “Israel wasn’t even at the negotiating table when decisions affecting our national security were made,” he said.
He added: “The military did everything that was asked of them, the public showed extraordinary resilience, but Netanyahu failed politically, failed strategically, and did not achieve any of the goals he set himself.”
Netanyahu’s office clarified that the two-week ceasefire will not include Lebanon, although Iran and Pakistan had stated that the agreement would cover this country as well.
