Lebanon reported today that an Israeli drone attack on June 10 killed a man and his son in a village in the country’s south. This marks the latest deadly strike despite a ceasefire reached in November. Israel, however, claimed those killed were militants.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health stated that “enemy Israeli drones carried out an attack in the village of Shebaa, killing two people and injuring another.” According to Lebanon’s state news agency, the victims were a father and his son, with another of the victim’s sons wounded.

The Israeli army confirmed it killed a Hezbollah member and an operative of the Lebanese Resistance Brigades, a group affiliated with Iran-backed militant factions. Hezbollah is designated a terrorist group by the United States, while the European Union has blacklisted its military wing but not its political party.

The Israeli army’s announcement stated that the two men “possessed weapons used by Hezbollah for terrorist purposes and for observing Israeli soldiers in the region near the border.”

Israel has continuously bombarded Lebanon despite the November ceasefire, which ended over a year of hostilities with Hezbollah, including two months of full-scale warfare. Last week, Israel warned it would continue airstrikes against Hezbollah targets across Lebanon.

The Lebanese government condemned a massive Israeli strike south of Beirut last week, ahead of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha. Hezbollah claimed the Israeli airstrike flattened nine residential buildings, while the Israeli army stated the strikes targeted underground drone production facilities. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the attack, calling it a “flagrant violation” of the ceasefire agreement.
