Israelis endured a night of unexpected fear and anxiety from Friday to Saturday, as multiple waves of Iranian missile attacks triggered air raid sirens across the country and caused significant damage in several locations. Tragically, three people were killed.
One resident described the night as “one of the most disturbing” he had experienced. “We heard numerous explosions. Some we could tell were very close and the door of our safe room was shaking,” he told CNN. He was near the impact site of a missile that killed a 60-year-old woman on Friday evening.
After spending the night repeatedly rushing for shelter with his wife and four children and hearing loud, frightening explosions, Aviad Caspi said he was shocked by the extent of the damage caused by the missiles. Caspi lives in the small community of Bitzaron near Ashdod, approximately 30 kilometers (19 miles) from the Israeli border with Gaza.
When he saw images of the aftermath of a missile strike in Rishon Lezion on Saturday morning, he realized it was “on a different scale” from the Hamas rocket attacks Israelis are accustomed to. “It was a very difficult night,” he added.
