The Kosovo Chamber of Commerce (Oda Ekonomike e Kosovës – OEK) has announced that as of May 22, 2025, it has officially become a member of GS1, the international organization for barcodes headquartered in Brussels.
This marks the end of a long-standing issue regarding the non-recognition of Kosovo’s barcodes in international markets.
“This significant achievement has been made possible thanks to the dedication of our team and the excellent cooperation with the GS1 staff,” the OEK stated.
From now on, Kosovo’s products and services will be identified with globally recognized barcodes, providing them with an internationally accepted identity and added value in the global market.
The Chamber further announced that detailed guidance will soon be provided to businesses on the necessary steps to implement the new GS1 Kosovo barcodes.
“Dear entrepreneurs, from this moment onward, your products and services will carry barcodes recognized around the world. This is a major milestone — congratulations to all!” concluded the Chamber.
