Italy has deployed fighter jets to intercept a Russian reconnaissance plane over the Baltic airspace.
In response to Russian activity, Italy dispatched two F-35 fighter jets from Estonia to intercept the Russian aircraft. NATO’s Air Command reported that this marks the third time in less than two weeks that Italian jets have conducted such an interception, according to SkyNews.
Additionally, yesterday, two German Eurofighter jets were scrambled to intercept a similar Russian plane over the Baltic Sea.
It is believed that Moscow uses these flights to gather intelligence on NATO military activities in the Baltic coastal regions, including Poland, Germany, Denmark, and Sweden.
