The Italy-Albania agreement on a refugee camp in Lezha has been reactivated. Italian media reports that the military ship Kasiopea, carrying 49 migrants, is en route to the shores of Shëngjin.
This marks the third time migrants will arrive at the Shëngjin port for processing at reception centers in Gjadër, Lezha. Previous attempts were halted by Italian judicial opposition to the agreement. However, following a recent ruling by the Supreme Court in Rome legitimizing the Rama-Meloni agreement, this transfer is expected to proceed without legal challenges, reports A2 CNN.
The migrant reception center in Gjadër began operations in September 2024, built by Italian authorities. Under the agreement, the facilities are managed by Italy, with Albanian authorities providing support.
