In a symbolic act that drew attention in Italy and abroad, lawmakers from the opposition party Five Star Movement (M5S) attended a parliamentary session wearing the colors of the Palestinian flag — red, black, green, and white — to show solidarity with the Palestinian people and condemn the Italian government’s silence on the situation in Gaza.

Seated in a coordinated manner in the Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of the Italian parliament, the MPs formed the image of the Palestinian flag with their bodies, sending a strong message that the flag has become a symbol of the struggle for humanity.

During the session, MP Riccardo Ricciardi stated:

“We didn’t carry the Palestinian flag in our hands because we knew it would be confiscated.”

He continued:

“While almost the entire world recognizes the State of Palestine, why doesn’t Italy? This is no longer just the flag of Palestine — it is the flag of those who fight for humanity. And you are guilty. You stayed silent even though you knew. You turned your heads away while a people were being massacred. You shook the blood-stained hands of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.”

Later, on social media, M5S leader Giuseppe Conte shared a photo of the MPs during the protest, writing:

Italy must stand on the right side.
