In a press release, KFOR announced the deployment of an additional 200 Italian troops to reinforce its mission in Kosovo. The soldiers, part of the Italian Army’s “Sassari” Mechanized Infantry Brigade, will engage in a variety of activities and work alongside other KFOR forces to address any developments impacting security, particularly during the election period.

“KFOR continues to implement its longstanding UN mandate – based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999 – by contributing to a safe and secure environment for all people and communities living in Kosovo, at all times and impartially, in close coordination with Kosovo Police and the EU Rule of Law Mission (EULEX), in line with their respective security response roles,” the statement emphasized.

Key Mission Priorities

The deployment underscores KFOR’s commitment to maintaining stability during sensitive periods, including the parliamentary elections scheduled for February 9, 2025. The newly arrived forces will join KFOR’s ongoing efforts to ensure a calm and secure environment.

KFOR’s operations are coordinated with local and international security institutions to uphold peace and safety across Kosovo.
