Albania is currently battling 17 active wildfires across several counties, with nearly 1,000 military and civilian personnel working to contain and extinguish them. To bolster the firefighting efforts, two “Canadair” aircraft from Italy and Croatia are expected to join the operation this afternoon.
National and International Forces Mobilized
According to Tch, the response is being coordinated by the Chief of Staff of the Albanian Armed Forces and the National Civil Protection Agency (AKMC). Five helicopters are already involved in aerial operations in areas such as Delvinë, Konispol, Berat/Dimal, and Bërzhitë.
So far, nine fires have been neutralized, but they are being closely monitored to prevent them from reigniting. The arrival of the two specialized “Canadair” aircraft from Italy and Croatia will significantly strengthen the aerial intervention capabilities as the country continues to face a challenging situation.
