Italy’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, has emphatically stated that Albania should join the European Union before 2030, praising Tirana’s rapid progress in implementing reforms. Tajani underscored that, in addition to Albania, Montenegro should also become part of the European bloc within the same timeframe.

“Albania is rapidly fulfilling all reforms, and for this reason, it must join the EU before 2030,” Tajani declared, attributing this progress to strong political will. He affirmed Italy’s readiness to support Albania with its expertise, particularly in the fight against corruption. Albania is expected to open its fourth cluster of negotiation chapters within June, with the government aiming to open all chapters by year-end.

The Italian minister further stressed that countries like Albania and Montenegro have made significant strides toward membership, and the enlargement process must be accelerated to achieve this goal before 2030.

“States like Albania and Montenegro have made very important steps forward for membership in the European Union. I note a strong political will for us to accelerate the enlargement process,” he said. “These states must enter our family before 2030; then we can talk about Moldova and Ukraine. Former European Council President Charles Michel mentioned 2030 as a goal, but I want this to happen even sooner.”
