Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, speaking on the public Italian TV program Rai, addressed her country’s position regarding the possibility of participating in the Peace Council in Gaza.
“As far as we are concerned, there is a constitutional compatibility issue. From reading the statute, several elements emerged that are incompatible with our Constitution. This certainly does not allow us to sign tomorrow. We need more time. There must be a process, but we remain open on the matter,” Meloni stated.
“Italy can play a uniquely important role in implementing the peace plan in the Middle East and in building the two-state perspective. I also do not consider it wise for Italy and Europe to exclude themselves from an organization that, nevertheless, is of interest,” the Italian Prime Minister added.
