Italy has reaffirmed its commitment to increasing defense spending within the framework of European partnership and has called for a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine to enable peace negotiations with Russia.

The statement was made by Italy’s Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani during a press briefing in Rome, according to UNN reports.

“Italy aims to achieve at least a 30-day ceasefire, which would create space for constructive negotiations between Ukraine and Russia,” Tajani said. He emphasized that Italy is actively engaged in finding a diplomatic solution to bring long-term stability to the region.

At the same time, the Italian government is stepping up efforts to boost its defense spending, aligning with NATO requirements and in cooperation with other EU member states, according to Euronews.

“We discussed key issues related to European defense and cooperation among member states. Everyone agrees on the importance of this collaboration. I’m optimistic that a major agreement will be reached, turning the next AIA Summit into a great success,” Tajani added.
