European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen described the leaders’ summit in London as a “good and honest discussion.”

She stated that they discussed the need for comprehensive security guarantees, including positioning Ukraine strongly and ensuring it has the means to “fortify and defend” itself.

She mentioned that this ranges from economic survival to military sustainability.

Von der Leyen continued by saying, “We need to have an increase in defense… we really need to massively scale up,” adding that a clear plan from the European Union and a unified European approach is necessary.

“It is now of utmost importance that we increase spending… it is important that we prepare for the worst,” she said.

She also sent a message to U.S. President Donald Trump, stating: “We are ready, together with you, to defend democracy, to defend the principle that there is a rule of law where you cannot invade your neighbor or change borders by force.”

“It is in our mutual interest to prevent future wars,” she added.
