The newly elected President Trump expressed his support for work visas for skilled workers in the U.S.

“I’ve always liked visas, I’ve always been pro-visas. That’s why we have them,” Trump said in an interview with New York Post on Saturday.

Trump emphasized that he is familiar with work visa programs, stating: “I’ve been a believer in the H-1B program. I’ve used it many times. It’s a great program.”

Trump’s comments come amid fierce political debate over immigration and the role of foreign workers in the U.S. labor market.

Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, whom Trump has selected to lead his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), argued earlier this week that American culture has not prioritized education sufficiently, and therefore, foreign workers are needed for tech companies like Musk’s SpaceX and Tesla.

Many tech companies have embraced the H-1B visa program, which allows U.S. companies to hire foreign workers for specialized professions. However, critics of the program argue that H-1B visa holders are often chosen over American citizens for these positions.
