Former U.S. Assistant Secretary James Rubin testified that American diplomat Christopher Hill was biased and openly against the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA/UCK). He claimed Hill continuously tried to undermine both Rubin’s image and that of Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.
“Christopher Hill was biased, and I noticed it. He was not impartial—he favored the LDK and was against the KLA. I, on the other hand, was impartial. I was asked to work with the self-declared leader of the delegation. Chris Hill, in a very reckless way, was biased. He tried to damage my image and Secretary Albright’s by suggesting that she had influenced the KLA leader at Rambouillet. In fact, we had only one clear objective we wanted to achieve there,” Rubin stated.
Rubin further argued that Hill’s partiality damaged the negotiations in Rambouillet and was the main reason why the KLA did not give a “yes” to the proposed agreement.
This testimony came after Prosecutor James Pace read out a statement by Hill, in which Hill had claimed that Rubin even advised Hashim Thaçi on what suit and tie to wear.
Rubin dismissed these remarks as “myths” and not truths, insisting that such claims originated solely from Hill.
