At the beginning of this year, it was announced that Kosovo had purchased anti-tank Javelin missiles from the United States. However, the timeline for their arrival remains uncertain.
According to Defense Minister Ejup Macedonci, the missiles are not expected to arrive in the remaining two months of 2024, but rather from 2025 onward.
Macedonci stated, “We are in discussions regarding the arrival of the systems at the appropriate time.” He added that he does not believe this will happen in the next two months.
“We are continuing to fulfill the obligations arising from the Javelin contract. We executed the first payment in March of this year, and by the end of this year, we will complete the second installment for the purchase of the Javelin systems. We are in discussions about the arrival of the Javelin systems at the right time. Even during the recent visit to the USA, General Jashari, the commander of the Kosovo Security Force (KSF), raised the issue of the Javelin systems. With only about two months left in this year, I don’t believe we will see them in this period,” he mentioned in an interview with “Dpt te Fidani.”
Macedonci emphasized that the systems will be in Kosovo “from 2025 onward”:
“I believe we will have them very soon. The idea is to have them available when we need them for validation and certification of our units. The period from 2025 onward is when we will definitely need them. I’m not specifying the exact year, but certainly, from 2025 onward, we will have them.”
