American professor Edward Joseph spoke about the issue between Kosovo and Serbia during a speech at the Pearson Institute in Chicago. In a panel that included former Prime Minister of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, Joseph stated that Kosovo’s membership in NATO is far more important than its membership in the United Nations.

Joseph emphasized that the game would be over once the path to Kosovo’s NATO membership is secured and the blockade is lifted, as Serbia would have no means to prevent Kosovo’s accession to NATO.

He further noted that any blockade by China and Russia in the United Nations would become meaningless since NATO membership is much more significant than UN membership.

“Opening the path for NATO membership for Kosovo. Once the way is secured and the veto and blockade are removed, it becomes a lost game. Serbia has no means to block it. And the possibility of Russia and China blocking Kosovo in the United Nations is essentially meaningless. Because NATO membership is far more important for Kosovo, as you heard from Haradinaj,” said Edward Joseph.

Joseph asserted that simply paving the way for Kosovo’s NATO membership would resolve the issue between Kosovo and Serbia, as “Serbia’s strategy would no longer matter.”
