The Acting President of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, has invited the European Union to deploy an election observation mission for the early parliamentary elections scheduled for June 7.
In a letter addressed to Roberta Metsola and Kaja Kallas, Haxhiu requested that the electoral process in Kosovo be monitored and assessed by an independent mission.
“In line with constitutional responsibilities, the decision to set the date for early elections has been issued. Considering the importance of this process, I invite the European Union, through an independent Observation Mission, to monitor and evaluate the conduct of the elections,” Haxhiu said, according to the Presidency.
She emphasized that the presence of an EU observation mission would help increase transparency, credibility, and integrity of the electoral process, in line with democratic standards and Kosovo’s commitments to free and fair elections.
Haxhiu also highlighted the EU’s continued role in supporting democratic institutions in Kosovo, describing the invitation as a continuation of institutional practice and a sign of commitment to an open and trustworthy electoral process.
