As the trial of Afrim Bunjaku continues, the family’s lawyer, Arianit Koci, has commented on the proceedings, highlighting the professionalism of the police and prosecutors.
Koci called on the court to act decisively, stating that “justice delayed is justice denied.”
“At this stage of the trial, I can say that everything is proceeding according to the law. The process is moving smoothly without obstacles. Both the police and the prosecution have carried out their work with professionalism, honesty, and dedication. The investigations have been conducted carefully and correctly, and this must be publicly acknowledged,” Koci said in an interview with IndeksOnline.
He emphasized that while the work of the institutions deserves recognition, it is now time for the court to take action and conclude the case with a meritorious verdict.
“When an institution performs its duties properly, it should be acknowledged. But now it is time for the court to act. This case must be concluded as soon as possible. A meritorious judgment is not only a satisfaction for the family of Afrim Bunjaku, who have shown patience, dignity, and trust in justice, but also for the country,” Koci added.
Koci also highlighted the importance of a fair and swift judicial process, linking the case to the protection of the foundations of the state.
“With this terrorist attack, the foundations of the state were targeted. The eyes of the world are on us. This is the moment when our justice system must demonstrate that it is efficient, professional, and independent. At the end of the day, we all know one thing: justice delayed is justice denied. And justice denied benefits no one,” Koci concluded.
The Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo filed charges on September 11, 2023, against Milan Radoičić and 44 others for the terrorist attack in Banjskë. The accused face charges related to terrorism, specifically “Crimes Against the Constitutional Order and Security of the Republic of Kosovo” and “Financing of Terrorism and Money Laundering.”
The accused allegedly attempted to separate the northern part of Kosovo and annex it to Serbia using heavy weaponry, resulting in the death of police officer Afrim Bunjaku and endangering the lives of other police officers and civilians.
The head of this structured terrorist group, Milan Radoičić, is accused of illegally obtaining funds from 2017 to September 24, 2023, which he converted into movable and immovable assets, some of which were transferred to third parties to hide the source of the assets.
The indictment in the “Banjskë case” has been welcomed by both local and international communities, who are closely watching how the trial will proceed.
