The Ministry of Justice of Kosovo has responded to urgent calls from the Legal Defense Foundation of former President Hashim Thaçi, which earlier requested the government’s immediate intervention to prevent the potential withdrawal of his lead counsel from the ongoing trial in The Hague.

In a statement issued just moments ago, the Ministry confirmed that a total of €5,353,301.02 has been spent to date for Thaçi’s legal defense.

“All payments have been made in a regular and transparent manner and will continue to be executed in accordance with the applicable legal provisions and the agreements in force,” the Ministry stated.

This comes amid growing concern that any interruption in legal representation could impact the course of the high-profile trial, where Thaçi and other former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) face charges before the Kosovo Specialist Chambers.
