For the first time, a survivor of sexual violence during the war in Kosovo has started receiving two pensions one as a recognized victim and one based on age.

This milestone was announced by the Kosovo Center for the Rehabilitation of Torture Victims (KRCT).

“And today, for the first time, a survivor no longer has to choose between her two identities she carries both with dignity.”

KRCT stated that since 2021, they have been pursuing a legal process to secure the right to dual pensions. This effort was successfully finalized thanks to rulings by the Basic Court in Prishtina and the Court of Appeals, setting a precedent for all survivors who have reached the age of retirement.

“This case is the first to make this right a reality in practice, while dozens of other cases are currently under review by the courts. We are actively advocating for institutions to recognize this right automatically for all survivors who have reached retirement age. This moment marks yet another step toward true justice,” reads the announcement, as reported by KlanKosova.tv.

Feride Rushiti, the director of KRCT, also commented on the development, saying:
“In this case, justice triumphed.”
