Kaja Kallas, the EU Foreign Policy Chief, welcomed the ban by EU member states on foreign tankers carrying Russian oil, describing it as the most effective measure.
“Following the US decision to ease sanctions on Russian oil, Europe will maintain its sanctions and continue to move away from Russian fossil fuels,” she emphasized.
“Exerting pressure on Russia’s shadow fleet is one of the best tools we have. I congratulate France, Belgium, and also Sweden for boarding and seizing tankers with false flags,” Kallas added.
The European Union has already blacklisted over 500 tanker ships, and since last year, several EU countries have started intercepting such vessels near their territorial waters.
