The European Union’s Foreign Policy Chief, Kaja Kallas, has called on Kosovo’s parliamentary parties to cooperate in resolving the ongoing political deadlock and confirmed that the EU has already begun lifting punitive measures against Pristina.

Speaking at a press conference during her first official visit to Kosovo, Kallas emphasized the EU’s willingness to support Kosovo, but urged political leaders to put aside their divisions and prioritize the country’s future.

“The formation of a new Assembly and Government is essential for Kosovo’s stability, growth, and European future,” said Kallas.

Kosovo has been unable to form its new institutions even three months after the parliamentary elections held on February 9, due to no party securing a sufficient majority to govern alone.

Since then, the Assembly has convened 20 times in an attempt to constitute itself — a necessary step toward forming a new government — but has continuously failed, as the candidate from Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s Vetëvendosje Movement has not secured the required 61 votes to be elected Speaker of Parliament.
