The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, in a speech today, announced that the EU’s new special envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue emphasized that stability is the EU’s priority in the Western Balkans.
“In the Western Balkans, we continue to prioritize stability. I am pleased to announce that today the Council appointed Peter Sorensen as the EU Special Representative for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue,” Kallas said during a press conference in Brussels.
Kallas reported that the ministers discussed a range of urgent security issues, mainly Ukraine, EU-U.S. relations, and the situation in the Middle East.
“More military support for Ukraine and stronger sanctions against Russia are two sides of the same coin. More military support for Ukraine is also crucial for our security,” Kallas said.
She also praised the decision of the EU foreign ministers to extend these measures to Russia.
She further noted that the EU has decided to provide 30 million euros to help Moldova purchase and transport gas.
Regarding EU-U.S. relations, Kallas emphasized that Europe and North America are “stronger and safer together.”
Speaking about the Middle East conflict, she stated that Brussels supports the ceasefire agreement, including the redeployment of the EU’s civilian mission in Rafah to oversee border controls.
She also announced that a political agreement had been reached today to begin easing sanctions on Syria, but that the EU is ready to change its course if the situation in the country deteriorates.
