Kallas to Visit Bosnia and Herzegovina in Early April

The Vice President of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dragan Čović, held a working meeting yesterday at the European Commission with the Vice President of the European Commission and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union, Josep Borrell.

The focus of the discussion was the current political moment and the European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with particular emphasis on the importance of accelerating the fulfillment of key reform priorities and maintaining political stability.

Vice President Čović emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina’s future in the European Union is a shared goal that all political actors must approach responsibly and constructively, urgently implementing the next steps in the European integration process.

He also stressed the necessity of maintaining peace, stability, and territorial integrity in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that in a non-election year, necessary changes to the Election Law must be implemented, which will ultimately guarantee the protection of constitutional rights for the Croatian people in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The interlocutors exchanged views on challenges in the field of foreign policy and security and the need to strengthen joint European efforts to preserve peace and stability.

High Representative and Vice President of the Commission Kallas reiterated her willingness to continue strengthened partnership cooperation with Bosnia and Herzegovina on its reform and integration path, with the message that the doors of the European Union remain open for countries that share its values and standards.

Kallas also announced an official visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina in early April.

In conclusion, it was agreed that the continuation of regular dialogue is of crucial importance for accelerating Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European integration and implementing the key steps ahead, such as changes to the electoral legislation to guarantee the protection of the constitutional rights of all three constituent peoples. At the same time, political responsibility, cooperation, and the steps for reform in the House of Representatives should be built, as announced by the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dragan Čović.
