EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, stated that Ukraine should not give up its territories as part of any peace agreement with Russia.

Speaking to journalists in Luxembourg after a meeting of EU foreign ministers, Kallas emphasized that trading Ukrainian territory is unacceptable.

If we simply give away the territories, it sends a message to everyone that you can use force against your neighbors and take what you want. I think this is very dangerous. That’s why international law exists—to prevent such actions,” Kallas said.

The comments come after Steve Witkoff, Special Envoy of US President Donald Trump, suggested last Friday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky might need to cede the Donbas region as part of a ceasefire agreement.

Trump also stated in a Sunday interview with Fox News that Russia would retain some of the territory it captured during the war.

According to Politico, EU leaders expressed support for Zelensky following the White House meeting, but were cautious in their statements regarding whether Ukraine should retain all its territory in any potential peace deal.
