Albanian MP in the Serbian Parliament, Shaip Kamberi, reacted following Serbian military exercises conducted in the territory of the Municipality of Bujanovac, near the border with Kosovo, describing them as an issue with implications for regional security.
According to Kamberi, such activities—especially when carried out near populated areas and involving air capabilities—directly affect the perception of security among local citizens, particularly Albanians in the Preshevo Valley.
“In the context of regional security, these developments can be interpreted as factors that increase tensions and reduce trust among local actors. Considering the importance of long-term stability in the Western Balkans, it remains essential to act with restraint and in accordance with the principles of cooperative security,” Kamberi emphasized.
He added that the role of the international community is crucial in encouraging constructive dialogue, transparency, and the avoidance of actions that may be perceived as provocative.
In his reaction, Kamberi also called for an increased presence of KFOR, describing it as necessary for maintaining a stable security environment.
“Maintaining a stable and predictable security environment requires continuous commitment to respecting international norms and strengthening crisis-prevention mechanisms. Increasing KFOR forces is of primary importance,” he stated.
Furthermore, Kamberi criticized the policies of Belgrade, describing them as provocative toward Kosovo and Albanians in the Preshevo Valley, while also urging NATO to consider reviewing the decision regarding the Ground Safety Zone.
