A delegation representing the Albanians of the Presheva Valley, led by Member of Parliament Shaip Kamberi, met with U.S. Congressman Keith Self, Chair of the Subcommittee on Europe within the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

The meeting took place in Dallas, Texas, where the delegation discussed “the real situation in the Preševo Valley — beyond Belgrade’s official narratives” and emphasized their demand for equality and reciprocity: the same standards Serbia demands for Serbs in Kosovo should also be implemented for Albanians living in Serbia.

In his detailed statement, Kamberi said the discussions focused on the difficult position of Albanians in Presheva, Bujanoc, and Medvexha, the militarization of the area, and the failure of Serbia to implement signed agreements, including the 2001 Framework Agreement.

He also raised the issue of address “passivization”, a policy used as an administrative tool to erase Albanians from civil registries, as well as the systematic discrimination and marginalization in public institutions, education, and employment.

Kamberi called for a more active U.S. engagement in the Preševo Valley through institutional support, situation monitoring, and direct involvement in human rights issues.

“The Presheva Valley seeks equality — the same standards Serbia demands for Serbs in Kosovo must be applied to Albanians in Serbia,” Kamberi emphasized.

He thanked Congressman Self for his openness, understanding, and readiness to listen to the concerns of the Albanian community, reaffirming that their advocacy for justice and equal citizenship continues in partnership with the United States, which shares the same democratic values.
