The United Kingdom has appointed Karen Pierce as the new envoy for the Western Balkans. She will take on the role in the spring, replacing Stuart Peach, reports “N1.”

Pierce is one of the UK’s most experienced diplomats. She served as the British Ambassador to the United States during the presidencies of both Trump and Biden. Additionally, she was the UK’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, becoming the first woman to hold both positions.

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy said, “Karen Pierce, with her experience and expertise, is the right person for this important role.” He also expressed gratitude to Stuart Peach for his dedication in serving and promoting UK interests in the Western Balkans over the past three years.

Lammy emphasized that the Western Balkans is a region of long-term importance for the UK, noting that partnerships in the region play a crucial role in addressing irregular migration and combating human trafficking.

It has also been announced that the UK will host a summit of the Berlin Process with leaders from the Western Balkans in the fall, aimed at improving cooperation with the region in the fight against irregular migration.
