The president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, spoke in Belgrade about the situation in the region with the US envoy for the Western Balkans, Alexander “Sasha” Kasanof.
” First of all, I have highlighted the extremely difficult and complex situation in Kosovo and I have told about the almost impossible conditions in which the Serbian people live, ” Vucic wrote on Instagram on October 9.

He added that two sides are needed for a constructive dialogue and that Serbia remains committed to the peaceful resolution of problems, “despite unnecessary escalation of tensions on the one hand”.
The U.S. envoy for the Western Balkans, Kasanof, will also visit Kosovo this week, where he will hold regular consultations with government officials, opposition leaders, civil society and businesses.
A day earlier, he visited Bosnia and Herzegovina where after talks with the BiH Presidency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kasanof reiterated that the US “strongly supports the territorial integrity, sovereignty and multiethnic character of Bosnia and Herzegovina”.
“The attacks on the Dayton Agreement and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the calls for peaceful secession – another name for secession – coming from Mr.Dodik is irresponsible. This is a dangerous path that leads neither Bosnia nor its citizens anywhere, and puts the future of Republika Srpska at risk, which I have stressed in all my meetings,” the US diplomat said in a statement distributed by the US Embassy in Sarajevo.
He stressed that the United States will continue to use all available instruments, including sanctions, in case of undermining the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He accused Republika Srpska (RS) President Milorad Dodik of attacking BiH and called on that entity’s authorities to appoint Constitutional Court judges from RS and implement its decisions.
According to Kasanofi, the US does not want BiH to be left behind while other countries in the region benefit from the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans implemented by the European Union (EU), and leaders and institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina should end the deadlock.
This is Kasanof’s first visit to the region as U.S. envoy for the Western Balkans. / REL/
