The Kosovo Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has expressed deep concern over the frequent electricity cuts taking place across the country in recent days.

These outages come at a time when businesses are already facing the effects of a 16.1% increase in energy prices, along with the uncertainty and damage caused by the liberalization of the energy market.

“KCCI has received dozens of complaints from member businesses in all municipalities of Kosovo regarding unannounced and unscheduled power cuts, which are seriously harming production, export contracts, and the stability of jobs.

Businesses operating in the free market, despite paying high tariffs, are not receiving regular and reliable energy supply, which constitutes a violation of the basic principles of an open market,” the statement reads.

The Chamber reminded that one of its main concerns during the liberalization process led by the Energy Regulatory Office (ERO) has been the guarantee of a stable energy supply.

“KCCI calls on the responsible institutions – ERO, KOSTT, KEDS, KESCO, and the Ministry of Economy – to take urgent measures to restore energy stability and to publish a transparent supply plan for the coming period.

At the same time, we demand that compensation mechanisms for businesses that have suffered losses due to ongoing outages be urgently reviewed,” the statement concludes.
