The Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK) has announced that there will be no electricity cuts this weekend, despite earlier alarms about potential reduced domestic power generation.

During a press conference, KEK’s Chief Executive Officer, Gramos Hashani, stated that KEDS (Kosovo Electricity Distribution Services) and KESCO (Kosovo Energy Supply Company) are obligated to import the necessary amount of energy for consumption.

“We only produce the energy and declare it one day in advance,” Hashani said, adding that Unit A3 will also be operational on Saturday. He emphasized that this means “there will be no 100% energy import.”

Hashani refuted reports that Kosovo would, for the first time, produce no megawatts of electricity within a day. According to him, today’s maximum consumption was 500 megawatts per hour, and he estimated that consumption would fall even further over the weekend.

He also added that KEK is currently undergoing a process of modernization and capacity expansion.

Earlier today, KESCO had raised concerns, stating that it had been informed of a lack of domestic production and that, in the most extreme scenario, this would mean all consumer energy in Kosovo would need to be covered by imports. Consequently, KESCO had called for urgent energy savings.
