Keith Kellogg, the U.S. President’s Special Envoy to Ukraine, has announced that Washington has presented a 22-point peace plan aimed at resolving the Russia-Ukraine war, revealing that the cornerstone of this initiative is a comprehensive ceasefire.
According to Kellogg, during a meeting in Istanbul, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio “made it clear” that this is a “strong peace plan.”
“Coming out of the London meetings, we (the US) came up with a comprehensive 22-point plan that is a framework for peace. Point one is a comprehensive ceasefire that stops the killing now,” Kellogg stated.
This revelation comes as Secretary of State Marco Rubio indicated that President Donald Trump is eager to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin as soon as possible to advance peace talks regarding Ukraine.
Rubio also suggested that the Vatican could serve as a venue for peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. Earlier, Pope Leo XIV proposed holding peace talks in the Vatican after a meeting in Istanbul failed to bring together key actors in the conflict.
The unveiling of the first point of the U.S. peace plan signals a potential new diplomatic push to de-escalate the conflict and initiate a path towards a resolution. The emphasis on an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire underscores the urgency of halting the ongoing hostilities.
