Iranian judicial authorities announced the execution of a man identified as Bahman Shubi Asl, labeled by Tehran as “one of Israel’s most important spies.” The execution took place at dawn, though the exact date of his arrest has not been disclosed.

Shubi Asl was convicted of espionage and reportedly had special access to critical and sovereign Iranian databases, working closely with Mossad, Israel’s foreign intelligence agency.

This announcement comes in the wake of the 12-day conflict in June, triggered by Israeli strikes on Iranian military and nuclear-related sites, which Iran responded to with rocket and drone attacks on Israel. Iranian leaders continue to refuse recognition of the Israeli state.

Since the end of hostilities, Iran has accelerated trials for those suspected of collaborating with Israel. Several individuals have been arrested for espionage, and multiple executions of those convicted of working with Mossad have been reported.

During the June offensive, high-ranking military officials, scientists involved in Iran’s nuclear program, and civilians were killed.

On August 9, Iranian courts announced investigations into about 20 individuals arrested for alleged connections to Israel. Earlier in August, Iran executed Rozbeh Vadi, accused of transmitting intelligence on a nuclear scientist who was killed during the conflict.
