For the 39th consecutive time, the deputies of the Kosovo Assembly failed to constitute the new legislature. This ongoing situation has drawn comments from the KFOR Commander, Italian General Enrico Barduani, in an interview with RTV Dukagjini.

While emphasizing that his mandate is primarily military and KFOR does not intervene in internal political affairs, Barduani underscored that the “security environment is also influenced by the political situation.”

Monitoring Political Developments

According to him, although there is currently no direct impact on overall security from this political deadlock, the institutional stalemate is a development closely monitored by the NATO mission in Kosovo.

“First of all, let me emphasize that as KFOR Commander, my interest and my duties are primarily and generally military. However, I cannot fail to underline that the security environment is also influenced by the political situation. We do not intervene in Kosovo’s internal politics, but at the same time, we are following political developments in Kosovo, including the parliamentary elections held in February,” Barduani stated.

“Although we have not seen any direct impact of the current political stagnation on the security situation, we encourage all parties to find a way to move forward that is in the best interest of all parties living in Kosovo,” he concluded.
